Profile
Tomoe Homma (née Miura) began playing taiko at the age of five. She entered the Kodo Apprentice Centre in 2013 and became a Kodo member in 2016. On stage, Homma is mainly featured on taiko drums, koto (Japanese harp), and in dance pieces. After becoming a Kodo member, her strong focus on dance led her to Aomori Prefecture to study under Yoshijun Ishikawa, head of Ishikawa-ryu Tsugaru Teodori. In “Spirited Summer” in 2016 and “Ayumi” in 2021, Homma was featured as a soloist, showcasing her expressive style of dance in original pieces Toro and Tenbyo. She captivates audiences with her tenderness, grace, and strength as a taiko player who dances. Homma is constantly honing her craft and broadening her expressive range.
Since 2020, Homma has been helping train Kodo’s next generation at Kodo Apprentice Centre, alongside her diverse performance activities.
