Profile

Sho Nakatani played taiko for four years as a member of his secondary school’s taiko club. He went on to enter the Kodo Apprentice Centre in 2017 and became a Kodo Member in 2020. On stage, Nakatani is mainly featured on taiko drums, metal percussion instruments, and vocals. He also plays a range of other instruments in Kodo performances, such as the marimba and crash cymbals, drawing on his past experience playing percussion in a wind ensemble.
His singing voice has a captivating simplicity to it, which is well-suited to the folk songs he performs on the Kodo stage. Nakatani also uses his voice to create soundscapes and new compositions, as seen in the haunting 2020 Toshiaki Toyoda film “Shiver.” He is a multifaceted performer who enjoys rising to new creative challenges.
