Profile

Mizuki Yoneyama began playing taiko at the age of two. She entered the Kodo Apprentice Centre in 2013 and became a Kodo member in 2016. On stage, Yoneyama is mainly featured on taiko drums. She is a dexterous taiko player who performs with power, stability, and a bright smile. Despite still being relatively new to the group, Yoneyama has already gained a wealth of improvisational experience on the Kodo stage. At Earth Celebration in 2020, Yoneyama made her directorial debut with “Girl Squad at Sobama Beach,” a select Kodo ensemble performance showcasing her fellow female performers. The concert and Wuttar—the upbeat piece she composed especially for the work—were a hit with the all-online audience and they continue to delight viewers on YouTube. In Kodo’s 40th Anniversary Commemorative Performance “Tsuzumi,” Yoneyama appeared center stage as a soloist in Dyu-Ha and Zoku—both coveted positions that were double-cast with Reo Kitabayashi. She continues to show audiences that she is a performer to watch as Kodo enters its next chapter.
