There was a large earthquake in the sea near Noto Peninsula on January 1, 2024. All Kodo performers, staff, and apprentices are accounted for and safe. A tsunami warning and evacuation orders were issued for areas including Sado Island, and members of the Kodo Group who are on the island during the winter break remain on higher ground where it is safe. There is no apparent damage to the facilities at Kodo Village.

We send our heartfelt condolences to everyone who was impacted and harmed by this natural disaster and we pray for the safety of everyone in the affected regions.
