Kodo Distinguished Member Chieko Kojima has incorporated the story of Anchin and Kiyohime from the Dojoji Tales into performances in recent years as part of her life work. The performances inspired a book of images that Chieko created in collaboration with photographer Maiko Miyagawa, portraying her unique Kiyohime character through the distinct four seasons on Sado Island. Since the book’s launch in 2015, the “Kasane no Kiyohime Monogatari: The Myriad Layers of Kiyohime” exhibition has traveled far and wide. Following six exhibitions around Japan to date, last year Kiyohime ventured abroad to Los Angeles and New York.

Next, at long last, it will pop up for three days in Tokyo! The Tokyo exhibition will be presented in tandem with live performances where Chieko will be joined by guest artists Yuriko Mukoujima on violin, Shunsuke Kimura on bamboo flute & shamisen, and Tsuyoshi Maeda on taiko.

The photographs on display will be available for purchase after each performance. Printed on beautiful Japanese paper, each photograph features Chieko as Kiyohime surrounded by a stunning seasonal scene on Sado Island.
