Message from the Composer
Every year, we release new pieces centered around unique themes. For this year’s theme, I chose irregular time signatures! Spring’s Sprung is a five-beat piece, which is not a very common time signature for taiko music.
It’s been eight years since I composed Shunpuu, the first release for Kodo One Earth Music.
It makes me truly happy to see that so many people from all over the world have played it.
While Spring’s Sprung has a similar instrument formation to Shunpuu, I’ve taken things up a level in terms of challenge.
I tried to capture that uplifting feeling you get when spring arrives and everything bursts into color.
As you learn and play this piece, I hope you’ll enjoy the distinct groove created by this irregular meter.
