This year Kodo took part in the recording of Fuyumi Sakamoto's latest enka (traditional-style Japanese popular ballad) song, "Otoko no Himatsuri" (Men's Fire Festival), which went on sale on October 2.
We are pleased to announce that Fuyumi Sakamoto has been awarded a Japan Record Award for best song and has been invited to perform "Otoko no Himatsuri" on the New Year's Eve program "Kohoku Uta Gassen." Kodo is honored to join Ms. Sakamoto on stage for these televised performances.
This is the first time since the recording that we have had the opportunity to perform together. If you are in Japan, we hope you will tune in!
A program related to the "Amaterasu" performances will be on air soon in Japan. It features a segment where you'll see the characters of the Kodo members, too! We hope you can tune in.
The "Tamasaburo Bando Special Performance" held at the Old Konpira Oshibai Kabuki Theater (Kanamaru-za) in Kotohira last year will be broadcast on WOWOW Prime. The first act is a subtle and profound world enveloped in stillness, comprised of Jiuta-mai (Japanese dances) "Yuki" and "Kanegamisaki." Kodo joins Bando on stage in the second act, a dynamic realm called "Ibuki." We hope you will tune in for this program.
*Program is approximately two hours long.
*Only WOWOW subscribers can view this program.
Sixty years have passed since broadcasting station BSN (Broadcasting System of Niigata) first opened. To mark this milestone, the station will re-broadcast programs from the past which won awards. This program, aired in 1993, is a documentary portraying exchange between Kodo and the people of Sado Island.
