Preparations for our year-end TV appearances are well under way. / Takuro Susaki Dec. 28, 2013
Kodo will be appearing on the televised “Japan Record Awards” on December 30 and “Kohaku Uta Gassen” on the 31st.
Today we had a rehearsal for the Japan Record Awards. A couple of months ago, we took part in the recording of Fuyumi Sakamoto’s enka song “Otoko no Himatsuri,” but today was actually our first time performing with her on stage.
Have a look at the photo Fuyumi Sakamoto took with us, it’s on her blog.

Masayuki Sakamoto (shown in the photo) took part today as a stand-in for Tomohiro Mitome who couldn’t make it to the rehearsal. For the awards show, the original recording cast will be performing: Tomohiro Mitome, Mitsuru Ishizuka, and Tsuyoshi Maeda. For the “Kohaku Uta Gassen” performance, Masayuki Sakamoto and Yuta Sumiyoshi will join in too, cheering on Fuyumi Sakamoto with our upbeat taiko.
Please tune in!

“School Workshop Performance” – Report by Tomohiro Mitome
On December 10 and 11, I went to see our “School Workshop Performances” in Niigata. The Kodo performers adapted to suit the students’ reactions, which is always different at each school, and tried to give as much of their energy as possible to their audiences. I was able to see just how much they could draw the students in, so the performances were very interesting, but at the same time, it looked like tough work.
Our taiko workshops are always popular at each school. This tour includes performances not only in schools, and also at some theaters, so I am looking forward to seeing our cast grow through their experiences of many different performance situations!
*On this tour, one of the 2nd-year Kodo apprentices has joined the cast to gain practical experience as a Kodo member.
