Member Notice (Farewell Message from Masaru Tsuji)

Over the past twenty years with Kodo since I first entered the Kodo Apprentice Centre, I have had so many valuable experiences and encounters. One in particular involves some words that I will keep in mind during the years ahead. In 2007 when I took part in the "Horai Kitan" performances, Kyogen performer Tadashi Ogasawara told us, "Put yourself outside your comfort zone." As a professional who performs on stage, I thought this was a very important thing to do and have valued those words ever since.

Rather than just doing that on stage, I think I need to also focus on putting myself outside of my comfort zone in my general life. When you are outside of your comfort zone, you can see yourself more accurately. It gives you the chance to see brand new things.

Next year I will turn forty. My capacity to absorb things is starting to slow down, but I will do my best to take in more and more as I move forward in life. Personally, I am also looking forward to seeing myself when I am not a Kodo member.

Lastly, I would like to express my gratitude to everyone for everything during my years with Kodo, all the fans who came along to see me perform, and everyone who has cheered me on to date. Thank you all so much.

I look forward to seeing you all again one day somewhere.
