Taiko is a simple instrument. If you hit it with a drumstick, it will make a sound. But because it is so simple, just beating it won't make a sound that moves people's hearts. The way you feel when you beat the taiko is what makes the taiko really echo and what brings people together.
At the Kodo Apprentice Centre (a wooden school building which used to be a junior high school), you'll experience the daily communal life of the Kodo apprentices, and spend five days playing taiko to your heart's content. Kodo's cheerful Eiichi Saito, head of the workshop, will lead participants to relax, unwind and free their body and soul. There is no difficult training, so no experience is required. Everyone is welcome. For those with experience, you'll surely pick up clues on how to play taiko that really moves people.
Come and see for yourself what kind of taiko you'll play after a week at Kodo Juku. You'll meet a new you, too. We look forward to welcoming you all!
