Motofumi Yamaguchi Shinobue Workshop - Seeking Better Sound

In tandem with his upcoming Ikkan Fugetsu performance, Motofumi Yamaguchi will be holding shinobue (bamboo flute) workshops in Tokyo. There are three courses on offer for everyone from beginners to seasoned pros. Discover new sounds and explore the potential of the bamboo flute together with a dedicated practitioner and gifted teacher.

1. Beginners Workshop - Introduction to the bamboo flute.

Suitable for:
Beginners, and people who would like to try the bamboo flute for the first time.
Content:
Introduction to the bamboo flute; history, use, structure, etc. How to hold the instrument and produce basic sounds.

2. Basics Workshop - How to produce strong and beautiful sounds with ease.

Suitable for:
People who can already produce a range of notes on the bamboo flute.
Content:
Breathing technique, posture and stance, producing sound, fingering, practice pieces.

3. Advanced Class - Learning a range of expressions through performance of full songs.

Suitable for:
People with bamboo flute performance experience. (Amateurs and professionals both welcome.)
Content:
Kaigara-bushi (Japanese Folk song), Uyuudai (Mongolian Folk Song)

Type of Flute for Workshop:
Ranjo Shinobue Roppon-choshi (#6) Utamono (Song type). Flutes will be available to borrow, but please bring your own if you have one.
