Earth Celebration 2015 EC Theatre<\/h1>\n

Chieko Kojima’s “Yukiai\u2013Kiyohime”<\/h2>\n

On August 23, the third day of EC 2015, I cordially invite you to join me for EC Theatre event, “Yukiai\u2013Kiyohime.” \u00a0This year we published a Kiyohime photobook and I am also working on a DVD. I look forward to sharing the world of Kiyohime with more people around the world.<\/p>\n

First, allow me to introduce the original cast members:\u00a0Shunsuke Kimura (fue [flute], shamisen [Japanese banjo]), Shingo Ikegami (koto [harp]), Hiromi Nishida (violin), and Ayuko Ikeda (percussion).<\/p>\n

\"\u7b1b\u30fb\u4e09\u5473\u7dda\u306e\u6728\u6751\u4fca\u4ecb\u3055\u3093\u3001\u7b8f\u306e\u6c60\u4e0a\u771e\u543e\u3055\u3093\u3001\u30d0\u30a4\u30aa\u30ea\u30f3\u306e\u897f\u7530\u3072\u308d\u307f\u3055\u3093\u3001\u30d1\u30fc\u30ab\u30c3\u30b7\u30e7\u30f3\u306e\u6c60\u7530\u5b89\u53cb\u5b50\u3055\u3093\u3068\u3002\"<\/a><\/p>\n

At EC, we will have a special cast that features\u00a0Park Soon-A<\/a>\u00a0playing\u00a0a Korean harp, the gayaguem. I look forward to portraying Kiyohime in another realm of sound.<\/p>\n

But wait, there’s more! On Day 2, there will be an Iwami Kagura performance on the Fringe Stage and one of the members, Taizo Kobayashi, will join me for EC Theatre to perform a\u00a0serpent dance. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to have this cast together. Don’t miss it!<\/p>\n

The other day I visited Mr. Kobayashi at his workshop. We had a meeting about EC Theatre and rehearsed together. Our preparation is going really well!<\/p><\/div>\n

I will perform my signature piece, Hana Hachijo, at the climax of the production.
\nI hope you will come along to see my unique portrayal of Kiyohime from the Tales of Dojoji.<\/p>\n

Kiyohime Synopsis<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the springtime
\nA young girl played in the fields all day long
\nChasing after flowers and frolicking butterflies with a pure heart Her name was Kiyohime<\/span><\/div>\n
One day, a handsome traveling monk appeared before Kiyohime
\nShe fell in love with him at first sight
\nIt was in the early days of summer when dew sparkled on the fresh foliage<\/div>\n
Before long, the morning came for the monk to leave
\nThey promised each other that they would meet again
\nAs Kiyohime awaited his return, her arduous yearning for the monk intensified with every day<\/div>\n
The promised day of their reunion came and went
\nBut the monk never appeared
\nKiyohime learned that he had avoided her by taking another route<\/div>\n
Kiyohime chased after the monk, but he escaped Kiyohime gained on him, in close pursuit
\nYet the monk drove her away and vanished<\/div>\n
Before she knew it, her sorrowful heart had started to smoulder A deep, fiery crimson red
\nIt scattered her love, flowers, and tears<\/div>\n
As she chased the monk, Kiyohime turned into a snake And drove the monk into a temple bell
\nCornering him at last<\/div>\n
Now a fire-breathing snake, Kiyohime coiled herself around the temple bell Enveloping it in bright, red flames along with her<\/div>\n
Kiyohime laid her purified soul down on a pillow of snow And off it drifted
\nTo another realm<\/div>\n

It will be held\u00a0at Hiyoriyama, a cozy cafe on the main shopping street in Ogi. We hope you will enjoy this portrayal of Kiyohime\u2018s journey through the changing seasons on Sado Island.
