This 2015 workshop camp was presented by Wachi Taiko, who are based in (my husband\/Kodo member) Yoshikazu Fujimoto\u2019s hometown. The workshop took place amidst\u00a0the beautiful, colorful spring surroundings of\u00a0violet wisteria and\u00a0green foliage.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6226\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kodo.or.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/083598a78424ea2c492513a1ab8bf17d.jpeg\" alt=\"20150504\u6708 (74)\" width=\"542\" height=\"359\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I wanted the participants to\u00a0enjoy the Wachi area in many ways, so I had asked our facilitator, Mr Fumitaka Ideno, to show\u00a0me around\u00a0various spots and together we decided the places we would\u00a0visit. During the camp, we enjoyed and cherished the echoes of our voices, sang together at those spots, and the participants and I had three days full of excitement and fresh energy.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kodo.or.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/2827e038e0b74e463c965c2a7942cf19.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kodo.or.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/2827e038e0b74e463c965c2a7942cf19-340x225.jpeg\" alt=\"\u5199\u771f\u63d0\u4f9b\uff1a\u548c\u77e5\u592a\u9f13\" width=\"320\" height=\"212\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kodo.or.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/5baf74902f8603d931416946cc5346bd.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kodo.or.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/5baf74902f8603d931416946cc5346bd-340x225.jpeg\" alt=\"\u5199\u771f\u63d0\u4f9b\uff1a\u548c\u77e5\u592a\u9f13\" width=\"320\" height=\"212\" \/><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>The workshops took place at the gym of a former elementary school, the\u00a0lodge at the camp site where we stayed, a temple dedicated to Kannon, which was established in the Muromachi Period (early 14th to late 16th century), and the early-morning mountainside of Mt. Choro.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6223\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kodo.or.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/cbd94fe43d3174bc847da8f4a6a0fb89-340x225.jpeg\" alt=\"20150505\u706b (172)\" width=\"340\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Before we said our goodbyes at the end, we shouted, \u201cThank you! WE LOVE WACHI!!! We&#8217;re cheering you on!!!!\u201d to the mountains, river, and the people of\u00a0Wachi. Not many people were there at the roadside rest area, but we sang together at the top of our voices.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6220\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kodo.or.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/19b185e4b11d457bb9954d100c5600d7-340x225.jpeg\" alt=\"20150503\u65e5 (16)\" width=\"340\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p>13 participants and 3 staff members gathered for\u00a0the Voice Camp. Among the participants, we had a former Kodo Apprentice, a wheelchair user (who came alone), a woman who moved from Kyoto to the\u00a0Wachi area and is now involved in agriculture, and a student who learns the shinobue (Japanese bamboo flute) from Miwako Mori*&#8230; actually many of them were involved in education in some way. They gathered in Wachi from Kyoto, Hyogo, Tokyo, Nagano, Okayama and Osaka. On\u00a0the night of the first day, I held a mini concert for the participants, and I was pleased that Miwako popped in as a guest. The participants particularly showed their curiosity towards\u00a0\u201cHifumi Norito\u201d\u00a0(words and prayers used by worshippers to a deity) and we spent a lot longer working on it than I had expected. I was pleasantly surprised and pleased by that!<\/p>\n<p>I must admit I was worried about whether the camp would go well or not, since I hadn&#8217;t led one in quite a while.
