This year, in recognition of the organization's "notable contribution to the promotion of Japanese traditional culture and to the revitalization of the local community," the Earth Celebration Committee was awarded the Tiffany Foundation Award for the Preservation of Japanese Traditional Arts and Culture in Contemporary Society. Judges chose the EC committee from among 31 nominees, recognizing their 21-year continuous effort to share the sights and sounds of Sado Island with the world. We believe that this award goes not only to the EC Committee but to all Sado Islanders, guest artists, staff, and everyone who gathered from around the globe to make Earth Celebration an international success year after year. Representatives from the EC Committee accepted the award from Tiffany & Co. Japan Inc. President Michael C. Christ at a gala award ceremony held at Aoyama Baisouin Temple in Tokyo on June 26, where Yoshikazu Fujimoto and Motofumi Yamaguchi of Kodo performed live on stage for dozens of esteemed guests.
