From an early age, Maya Minowa was brought up with taiko in her life. She entered the Kodo Apprentice Centre in 2009 and became a member of Kodo in 2012. On stage, she is featured mainly on taiko drums and koto (harp). Using every inch of her petite frame, Minowa is a captivating, inherently powerful drummer who can hold her own with the male performers. In 2015, she became the first female Kodo performer to play Monochrome on stage, which is one of the ensemble's signature pieces. Her repertoire and range continue to expand as she tackles new challenges both in Japan and abroad, such as the 2015 ballet collaborations "Kaguyahime" in Canada and "Tamashii" in Russia, and leading a series of workshops in Brazil in 2016.
