Profile

Yuta Kimura entered the Kodo Apprentice Centre in 2014 and became a Kodo member in 2018. On stage, he is mainly featured on taiko drums and bamboo flutes. Along with the shinobue, the transverse bamboo flute commonly used for folk arts and festivals, Kimura also plays the higher pitched Nohkan and ryuteki that are traditionally used to accompany Kabuki and Noh theater. He is known within the ensemble for his reliability, passion for research, and strong sense of responsibility. In 2020, he composed “ The Trooper”: the second Yomiuri Giants x Kodo collaboration piece that livened up the stadium at Giants games during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021 and 2022, he served as the team leader of Kodo’s School Workshop Performance tours, directing and appearing in a spirited programme shared throughout Japan.
