Explore Ogi

In days past, Ogi was a booming port town and an important stop along the water route of the Kitamaebune (Northern-bound ships) that transported goods and culture all along Japan's Western seaboard. The gold from the island's mines was shipped out through Ogi, and many historical buildings in the town still remain intact, reminding us of a culture that one flourished in a time of commercial prosperity. Join us for a stroll down the streets of Ogi as we listen to the engrossing stories of a local volunteer guide.

Stops on this tour include a traditional merchant's home, a Japanese inn that once housed author Koyo Ozaki, and a remodeled miso storehouse.

This year we have prepared two courses: one visits the Preservation District for Historic Buildings in Shukunegi where you can take a stroll down an old-fashioned street, and the other will take you to Sobama Beach and the famous Rengebuji Temple.
