Kodo celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2011. While putting together a commemorative book celebrating the group’s three-decade journey, Kodo staff found many precious archives from the past, including photos from the days of Kodo’s antecedent group Sado no Kuni Ondekoza. Come get an up-close and personal look at Kodo’s history through this rare collection.
The exhibition venue, Tennanso, is located halfway down the main shopping street in Ogi. It was once a miso storehouse, which was remodeled and used as Japanese inn until about 10 years ago. Check out the retro interior when you drop by to see the exhibition or just take a break.
The ever-popular “Ranjo-san's Japanese Flute Making Workshop” is back, celebrating its 10th year at Earth Celebration. To commemorate this special occasion, we’ll have a special Ranjo flute exhibition featuring his shinobue, makobue, ryuteki (dragon flute), and nohkan (Noh flute). Come witness the unmatched craftsmanship and unwavering dedication with which Ranjo has been creating flutes for the last 30 years. The results are true works of art, some of which will be on sale. Ranjo will be at the venue from time to time, so stop by for a chance to chat with the craftsman himself. Please note that the exhibition will be closed during Ranjo’s workshop sessions.
Master flute craftsman Ranjo brings bamboo to life, putting his heart and soul into every blade stroke. With a focused passion for bamboo, he has been creating hand-made instruments for over 30 years. Various flautists act as his teachers, and with their help Ranjo hopes to eventually create "the ultimate flute." He makes flutes for all, from beginners to professional musicians, with the desire to help them achieve the sounds they dream of creating.
