Ranjosan's Japanese Flute Making Workshop

The ever-popular “Ranjosan's Flute Making Worklshop” is back! 2009 marks the 8th year of this annual fixture at the festival, but this year we’ll be making an 8-hole flute, which gives those of you who made a 6-hole one in the past a chance for a second challenge at something new. All materials will be supplied, just bring you curiosity and enthusiasm! Following Ranjosan's instructions, we'll carve a piece of bamboo with a small knife over to complete the flute in 2 hours. Come find out what kind of music comes from an instrument carved from your own hands.

Profile

Ranjo

Master flute craftsman Ranjosan brings bamboo to life, putting his heart and soul into every blade stroke. With a focused passion for bamboo, he has been creating hand-made instruments for over 30 years. Various flautists act as his teachers, and with their help Ranjo hopes to eventually create "the ultimate flute." He makes flutes for all, from beginners to professional musicians, with the desire to help them achieve the sounds they dream of creating.
