"DADAN," which means "men drumming," features young Kodo performers in a bold exploration of pure physical percussion. In September 2009, the debut Kodo "DADAN" performances were held at Tokyo's Setagaya Public Theatre, where the curtain consistently came down to rave reviews. The explosive energy of each sell-out performance was met with a standing ovation, and all of the action was captured for release on DVD.
Without elaborate backdrops or adornment, the artistic director used the stage to its fullest, capturing every exciting detail of seven men as they deliver ninety minutes of non-stop drumming. With close-ups as well as a broad look at the full production, this recording is a complete look at the DADAN experience.
This cutting-edge performance has toured in Japan and been performed at international performing arts festival "Earth Celebration." It made its foreign debut in 2012 with four sell-out performances at Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris and then returned to Europe in 2014 for a tour visiting Spain and France. DADAN evolves with each and every performance, so this DVD allows you to see the production at the premiere, in its original form.
