We look forward to sharing these classics with you live!<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The programme will feature Miyake, Monochrome, Mine no Kaze, Zoku, Irodori, O-daiko, Yatai-bayashi, and more!<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Here is a brief introduction to some of the pieces on the lineup:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kodo.or.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Michi_TO_3550-s.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-12115 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kodo.or.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Michi_TO_3550-s-340x510.jpg\" alt=\"Photo: Takashi Okamoto\" width=\"340\" height=\"510\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Miyake (Arranged by Kodo)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This piece is based on the unique style of drumming played at local festivals in the Kamitsuki Region of Miyake Island, one of the seven volcanic islands of Izu south of Tokyo. The drums are set very low to the ground, requiring a strenuous stance, and the performers drum with relentless power, like ocean waves beating upon the island shore.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kodo.or.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Michi_TO_3134.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-12111 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kodo.or.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Michi_TO_3134-680x454.jpeg\" alt=\"Photo: Takashi Okamoto\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Monochrome (Composed by Maki Ishii)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Weaving constant rhythmic patterns together with highly irregular ones, Monochrome develops spirally to an exciting climax. The listener might interpret the sounds as those of the changing of the seasons, or perhaps even the progression of life itself. Lose yourself in the vibrations created when the power of the ancient drum and the pure drive of the drummer become one.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kodo.or.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Michi_TO_4646.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-12112 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kodo.or.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Michi_TO_4646-340x510.jpeg\" alt=\"Photo: Takashi Okamoto\" width=\"340\" height=\"510\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Yatai-bayashi (Arranged by Kodo)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Every year on December 3rd in Saitama Prefecture, an all-night festival is held featuring richly decorated two story \u2018yatai\u2019 (carts) pulled from village to village. The people hauling the yatai are urged on by the powerful beating of the taiko, concealed in the cramped first story of the carts. This gave rise to a technique of drumming while seated.
