When we travel abroad, we usually eat out for most of our meals. It&#8217;s enjoyable to eat local food to experience a place, but we also long for the tastes of Japan.<br \/>\nThis time while I&#8217;m in Montreal, I have a kitchen in my hotel room. So I decided to cook while I&#8217;m here!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8079\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kodo.or.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/IMG_0452-340x255.jpg\" alt=\"Photo: Tetsumi Hanaoka\" width=\"340\" height=\"255\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For this particular lunch, each person was in charge of bringing along one part of the same dish.<\/p>\n<p>Ryosuke was in charge of the vegetables: carrots, onions, and potatoes. The onion was almost as big as his face!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-8087\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kodo.or.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/20151015tetsumi-680x306.jpg\" alt=\"20151015tetsumi\" width=\"640\" height=\"288\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I was in charge of the pork, which I carved myself.<\/p>\n<p>Kenta was in charge of the rice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kodo.or.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/IMG_04531.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8085\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kodo.or.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/IMG_04531-340x255.jpg\" alt=\"Photo: Tetsumi Hanaoka\" width=\"340\" height=\"255\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yuta was in charge of the curry roux&#8230; so yes, that&#8217;s right: we made Japanese curry together!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-8086\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kodo.or.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/IMG_04551-680x510.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0455\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When we all get together and cook like this, it reminds me of life at the Kodo Apprentice Centre and living in the dorm at Kodo Village.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8083\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kodo.or.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/IMG_0456-340x255.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0456\" width=\"340\" height=\"255\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Curry tastes so good when you make it and eat it with others. We made a full pot and ate every last bit.
