To combat this,\u00a0Sado Island Taiko Centre and Sado City Senior Citizens Welfare and Care Insurance Division launched\u00a0&#8220;EXADON&#8221; in 2014, which is a course that teaches people\u00a0about\u00a0playing taiko as a way to prevent dementia.<br \/>\n&#8220;EXADON&#8221; is a\u00a0word created\u00a0by dementia specialist Mr. Yoshinori Morimoto (Shiosai Clinic) from these three words: &#8220;Exercise&#8221; + &#8220;Sado&#8221; + &#8220;<span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Don<\/span> (the sound of a\u00a0taiko drum).&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kodo.or.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/CIMG1149.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4929\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kodo.or.jp\/blog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/CIMG1149-680x451.jpg\" alt=\"Photo: Tsugumi Yamanaka\" width=\"640\" height=\"424\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last year, the\u00a0&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kodo.or.jp\/news\/20141018exsadon_en.html\">EXADON 2014 Supporter Training Course<\/a>&#8221; was held to teach supporters (future\u00a0EXADON facilitators). This innovative project has been expanding\u00a0on Sado Island ever since. There were 30 participants in this course and they came to Sado Island Taiko Centre\u00a0twice a month for three months. At the beginning of the course, their sound was\u00a0very weak, but at the end of it, they all enjoyed playing taiko so their sound got much bigger and really powerful. Over the course of those 3 months, they had all become taiko enthusiasts.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, the first EXADON workshop was led\u00a0by some of the EXADON supporters at a\u00a0lecture about dementia\u00a0prevention.
